It's a beautiful thing to become a mother. The journey from pregnancy to parenthood is full of new experiences that are equally challenging and rewarding. Unfortunately, the transition into Motherhood isn't as seamless as it might appear on Instagram, so it's important to check in on your friends and family members during this new chapter of their life.

For many mothers, the newborn phase can be an incredibly lonely time. After only a week, the partner will return to work, leaving the mother at home with a huge responsibility based solely on her shoulders. Yes, she will have been preparing for months; however, there is really nothing you can do to prepare you to have the Motherhood journey. So, the support of their friends and family is crucial during this time. If you know someone who has recently become a mother, here are some ways to support them!

BECOME A FOOD DELIVERY SERVICE

Seriously, any meal you can off-load on a family who has had a new member arrive will be highly appreciated. Sometimes, getting dressed for the day is a struggle and preparing food for themselves just doesn't seem like a priority. So bringing them a home-cooked meal will show your support and give them a little extra energy to take care of themselves.

JUST BE THERE

This one is pretty simple. Just be there. A support system can take many different forms, and sometimes, all that is needed is someone to listen. So if the new mother in your life wants to chat, allow them the space to do so.

GIVE THEM A BREAK

Offering to take the baby to allow a new Mother to shower, take a nap, or just have a small window of time to themselves will be one of the greatest gifts you can give. Allow them the opportunity to take care of themselves, even if it is just for 30 minutes.

SEND THEM A BABY GIFT

A little gift a few months after their birth is something that many new Mothers will appreciate. The newborn phase can feel like an eternity, and receiving support shows you long-term support.

Petit Luxe Bebe offers a range of beautiful baby gifts to brighten a new Mother's day. From soft toys to stylish clothing, we have something for everyone. Browse the range here.

OFFER TO HELP

New Mother's often have kilometer-long to-do lists. Offer to help them out with any errands or household chores. You will help her achieve a sense of accomplishment in her day, and trust us, this is something a new mother craves.

Furthermore, if they have pets, offer to take the dog for a walk or re-fill the kitty litter. Any small thing you can do to help will go a long way for a sleep-deprived new mum.

So if you know someone who has recently become a mother, make sure they know that you are there for whatever they need. So many new mothers' instincts tell them that they don't need help and should do everything themselves. So slap the silly right out of them and let them know they're not alone and that you're there for whatever they need. Uber driver, food delivery, errands... the whole lot. Any small gesture you do will offer more support for a new mum than you realise. And keep in mind that one day she will repay the favour when it's your step into your parenting journey.
